Foam Insulation

Why Use Spray Foam?

Spray foam Vs. Traditional Fiberglass Insulation

Why use spray foam insulation

Spray foam insulation is an energy cost-saving solution, which can offer a sizeable return on your insulation investment compared to traditional fiberglass insulation. With the money you will save in energy costs, spray foam insulation pays for itself within a few years.

In addition, spray foam insulation will out-perform traditional fiberglass insulation in every way, and will remain intact and last for the life of the home or building. Spray foam will continue to efficiently insulate, whereas traditional fiberglass sags and settles causing it to no longer perform at its original R-value.

Lower Energy Costs

In this day and time, more and more commercial, as well as residential buildings are being initially designed with spray foam insulation. Architects are relying on spray foam insulation to reduce energy costs, controlling moisture, and improving indoor air quality and air infiltration. However, spray foam insulation can provide the same benefits in an existing structure with a retrofit. According to the Department of Energy, if the building envelope includes inefficient technologies and poor insulation, the building envelope can contribute to higher heating and cooling costs – which account for 43 percent of the average energy consumption.* The building envelope is designed to be the barrier that protects from the uncontrolled movement of heat, air, and moisture. The same air infiltrating the home or commercial building brings in outdoor pollutants, such as dust, dirt, pollen, and mold. Extreme energy retrofit and energy expenditures per square foot are becoming a hot commodity in commercial real estate. Existing property owners are more knowledgeable today about how to reduce their energy costs. Creating an air barrier, which lowers these costs, and provides a more comfortable living or working space is how spray foam insulation performs.

Consider the following benefits of Demilec spray foam insulation:

  • Insulate with an air barrier in one application

  • Fills all cracks, gaps, and voids between insulation and framing

  • Adheres to nearly any substrate

  • Save on energy costs

  • Contains no CFC's, HCFC's, formaldehyde, or fibrous materials

Types of Foam

When using spray foam insulation there are numerous options out there. Along with picking the right contractor to install the insulation properly, it is important to choose the proper foam for the application desired. Here at Spray Right Foam we use one of the leaders of innovation in spray foam technologies, Demilec. Demilec has over 30 years of commitment to using intelligent solutions and high-performing, quality products to help solve global environmental challenges. This is evident in both the use of renewable and recycled content in their products, as well as their green recognitions and certifications by various organizations, such as the NAHB Research Center, LEED Certifications, and USDA Bio-Preferred, just to name a few. The two major options for foam are open and closed cell foam. Below is a description of each and any other information needed can be obtain by reaching out to us. Let Spray Right Foam be your preferred foam contractor and help guide you through the process of choosing the proper foam for your project.

Open Cell Foam

Open Cell is a two-component, light-density, one-to-one-by-volume spray polyurethane foam.

No Ignition Barrier Coating is required when used in assembly-specific attic applications.

To produce Open Cell requires the use of an “A” component (ISO) and a blended “B” component (RESIN), which contains ZERO ozone-depleting blowing agents, catalysts, polyols, and fire-retarding materials.

Open Cell is an insulation system designed for use in residential applications. Use it in lieu of more traditional forms of insulating materials such as fiberglass, cellulose, or other loose fill products. Typical areas where Open Cell is applied are exterior walls, vented attics, unvented attic assemblies, and between floors.

Closed Cell Foam

Closed-cell spray foam insulation is a higher-density foam than open-cell. The structure of the actual cells are more compact. It is both an air barrier, water-resistive, and vapor barrier. Closed-cell can be installed anywhere in the home.

HFO High Lift, is the first product to leverage ultra-low global warming potential blowing agent, combines an R-value of 7.5 with a 6.5” lift to achieve an R-49 in a single pass. Spray IRC ceiling insulation code in less time than ever before.

  • R-value = 7.5/inch*

  • Spray 6.5” (R-49) in one pass

  • Low VOC emission, meets requirements for schools and healthcare facilities

  • Superior yield, sprayability, adhesion, and reduced gun clogging

  • Formulated with Solstice® Liquid Blowing Agent’s ultra-low GWP

*Aged R-value at 4 inches per ASTM C518
